Facebook Games

Are you surprised at all that Facebook games like FarmVille and CityVille are rakin’ it in like this? They’re making more money than Madden NFL & Halo Reach!

Kinda wonder if the next generation of kids will even game offline…what do you think?

‘Like’ T-Pain’s new tattoo?

We’re not even sure what to say about this one. Is it clever or just plain ridiculous?

As Adrian Chen explains on Giz: he’ll “be forced to spend his 70s and 80s explaining to young people what his tattoo means, after Facebook is replaced with cranial implants.”

New Facebook Profile

What do you guys think about the new facebook profiles? They’re different, that’s for sure! This animated GIF from The Daily What really puts the changes in perspective too. What was your favorite incarnation of the facebook profile?

Relationship Status: It’s complicated

Ok, let’s be honest. Facebook has pretty much completely changed the way we conduct our love lives.  Remember the days before it existed – when you had to pass notes in class, ask your friends to ask around and see if your crush was single, pin all your hopes on bumping into them at the locker bay or change your walking routes around school so you’d see them? …Maybe that was just me…

Seriously though, Facebook does all the dirty work for you now! You can just hop online and see for yourself whether or not your crush is taken (or at least find out through a mutual friend if you haven’t hit the friend request button yet). You can look through hundreds of tagged pictures and flirtatiously “like” their cute new profile picture. You can even send them a private message… dun dun dun! I wrote about this months ago, pondering how many people have fostered their young love in the cozy privacy of a facebook message. It’s especially interesting to think about in light of this recent study by Seventeen magazine, which said that 72% of respondents felt that “talking to someone online brings you closer to them IRL.”

It’s hard to imagine those days when we weren’t able to Facebook stalk the people we were into. And you know, as much I feel like a creep-o for saying this, I don’t know if I’d give up the capability to either! Would you?

Are you an Internet badass??

Think you’re an Internet badass or just mildly awesome online? Do your friends reallllly like your status? Are there naked pictures of you online or is that totally impossible?

This crazy quiz will tell you what your personality type is! I guess I’m a “social butterfly,” which isn’t all that surprising, right? 😉

I was totally surprised at how people answered that naked pictures question though, haha…

Look-a-like Contest

Heads up! We’re having a contest on the Rover facebook page right now (http://facebook.com/rover4g) for a brand new Rover Puck. Want in on it?

Just like the page and then leave a comment telling us what you think the Puck looks like by the end of the day. Whoever shares the funniest and craziest idea will soon have the pleasure of unboxing their very own Rover Puck.

Get over there! There are already some pretty hilarious comparisons.

So your parents just joined Facebook…

What do you do?

Well, if you’re like the people below you pay them back for embarassing you by putting their more ridiculous facebook posts on myparentsjustjoinedfacebook.com. It’s this hilarious website that collects funny (and absolutely mortifying) facebook experiences to show you that no, you are not alone…

So painful and yet so funny. The days when Facebook was only for college kids seem like ancient history sometimes, don’t they? Now we’ve entered a whole new stage of networking and social relationships. It’s hard to even imagine life without Facebook now and yet we all still have so much to learn… ; )

What about you? Any embarrassing Facebook stories?

Your Augmented ID

Just saw an article on Mashable about how Apple has supposedly acquired a Face Recognition company (Polar Rose). Did you read it? The acquisition is interesting but I was more intrigued by the video embedded in the article:

There’s no telling whether Apple will use the augmented reality concept featured in this video, but it’s fascinating nonetheless.

If the technology was available, would you make use of an augmented ID? I can imagine there would be a few dangers to it (like forgetting to set your ID to work instead of play when you go to a meeting), but it might also make your life a lot more convenient. Online social networking seems like it’s here to stay anyway and I’m sure we’ll be seeing many more concepts like this that try to integrate our online identities into our everyday lives.
